Compiled by Inclusive Companies and now in its eighth year, the IT50 list is judged by a panel of DEI experts.
Judges look at best practice in areas of diversity including age, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+ and religion.
Paul Sesay, CEO of Inclusive Companies told HR magazine the awards look for consistent cultures of inclusion and belonging.
He said: “Our judging panel is looking for cultural change rather than the ‘peaks and troughs’ often seen by well-meaning organisations whose EDI activities are actions are in response to national or world events making the news.”
West Midlands Fire Service was placed at number one for the second year running.
Wayne Brown, chief fire officer at West Midlands Fire Service, said: “This is a phenomenal achievement and a clear validation of how we are working to harness the power of diversity within our workforce, to provide the very best service to the diverse communities of the West Midlands.
“The journey to being a truly inclusive organisation is long. It requires constant innovation and honest reflection to drive improvement. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is firmly embedded in our cultural DNA.”
Chris Norbury, CEO of EON, which came eigth in the list, said: “Our people reflect the diversity of the millions of customers we serve which is why we strive to make all our colleagues feel welcomed, supported, respected and valued.
“We’re continually seeking out opportunities to strengthen our commitments, listening to and delivering for our employees and enabling them to come to work as their authentic selves and to thrive.”
