Employers' manifesto calls for 'mandatory reporting' on diversity

A manifesto launched by the Employers' Network for Equality and Inclusion (ENEI) has called for the government to introduce mandatory company reporting on diversity and inclusion.

The ENEI Manifesto is launched at the organisation's annual reception at the House of Lords today (Wednesday, 10 September). It is designed to "accelerate the pace of change" of diversity and inclusion at UK organisations.

It is based on a consultation of ENEI members that was conducted from May to August. One recommendation arising from the responses is to bring maternity and paternity under one umbrella of 'family leave' to remove any stigma or imbalance.

The paper also calls for government-led targets on diversity within companies to be proportionate to the size of the workforce.

ENEI chief executive Denise Keating told HR magazine the organisation is looking to remove practices that are the "enemy of diversity".

"If middle-aged white men are just allowed to bring it those close to them nothing will change," she said. "It's not just about gender and ethnic background, but also socio-economic factors too.

"We think everyone should be held to account within business. This applies to government all the way to individuals working within the companies themselves."
