Her PhD in business and management research from King’s College London focused on an in-depth longitudinal study of how directors are appointed as non-executive directors on FTSE 350 companies, looking at differences in how men and women are appointed and the effect of the government’s Women on boards initiative.
She also has an MSc in sociology from The London School of Economics and Political Science and first-class BSc in sociology from the University of Bristol.
In addition to her work at Board Intelligence, she is a lay member of the research committee at the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), advisory board member of independent think tank Tomorrow’s Company and non-executive director at art handling company Artworks Exhibitions.
A former part-time policy consultant of corporate governance and responsible business at the CIPD, Brown has also led her own research consultancy, Research with Purpose, and co-founded non-executive director search site Dynamic Boards.
