He will report to parent company Home Retail group HR director Julie Elder and Homebase managing director Paul Loft.
Shaw has worked across a range of sectors, including energy, technology, hospitality, consulting and public services. He has led people programmes at Post Office, Whitbread, Centrica, AOL and DST Global Solutions.
Elder said Shaw would be part of the group’s HR leadership team.
“He is the latest in a series of high-calibre senior HR leadership appointments, who will play a key role in function and business transformation,” she said. "John is already shaping and influencing strategies within Homebase and across the group."
Shaw said Homebase offers tremendous opportunities as it shifts into new ways of working, builds skills and capability around technology and grows talent for the future.
“I am especially excited by the opportunities around the use of technology in stores and schemes like the Garden Academy, which give young people opportunities for vocational careers that are rarely available in the market today,” he said.
