Kent recruitment website targets local talent

Public-sector employers in Kent have launched a new recruitment website, which they plan to advertise in local cinemas to coincide with the latest James Bond film.

Kent County Council and the Eastern and Coastal Primary Care Trust launched the site, aimed at jobseekers aged between 25 and 45 looking for middle and senior management roles, to challenge the assumption that people from Kent need to travel to London to work.

The site, Kent Connection, will allow jobseekers to see job vacancies, learn about local areas and read case studies by people already working in the field.

It is hoped that more public-sector employers, including emergency services, other primary care trusts and district and borough councils, will sign up for the scheme.

Kent County Council deputy leader Alex King said: "Kent has such a range of career opportunities in a number of fields in the public sector. This website highlights the possibilities for finding that job right here in the county. This is a real opportunity for jobseekers and employers to make the most of everything Kent has to offer."

Hazel Carpenter, HR director at NHS Eastern and Coastal, added: "We have an NHS budget of over £2 billion to invest and this requires diverse skills.

"Working with Kent County Council we realised we needed to persuade Kent's best to quit the commute and stay in the county. We hope Kent Connection will make this happen."
