Stephen Moir seconded to role of national adviser for Local Government Improvement and Development

Stephen Moir, corporate director for people, policy and law at Cambridgeshire County Council, is set to influence future development of local government while on secondment as national adviser, organisational development and transformation with Local Government Improvement and Development.

Moir will be primarily involved with the new National Place Based Productivity Programme, focusing on workforce issues.

This will mean looking at everything in relation to people management and development within local councils, including programmes such as the People Management Peer Review, support for Workforce Skills activities and working with central Government on issues relating to public sector productivity.

Moir, who has been with the county council for five years, was personally asked to take on this role in recognition of Cambridgeshire's leading-edge practice on HR issues and his significant standing in the profession. This includes his service as president of the Public Sector People Managers' Association and numerous awards won by the council in recent years.

He said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to use the skills and experience that I have developed throughout my career for the national interest. There will be many challenges ahead as I look to develop various programmes from peer reviews to workforce productivity which will bring about change in councils throughout the country.

"I am incredibly proud to have been asked to take on this role and it is recognition of the hard work which we have done in Cambridgeshire. My secondment will not mean any less focus on my job with the county council – I have a great team in place who have shown in recent years they too are ready to meet the challenges which local authorities currently face."

The secondment is for two days a week and is initially for three months.
