Jim Newell joins BSI Group

Jim Newell has joined BSI Group as group HR director. He was previously global HR and communications director, TI Automotive.

- What does your new role involve?

Supporting the delivery of the BSI business plan with a robust HR strategy is my main challenge. BSI is a global enterprise with presence in more than 20 countries and customers in more than 150. The people of BSI are truly where the value of the business lies. As a result the HR strategy involves everything from global knowledge transfer networks to terms and conditions in Vietnam.

- What attracted you to the role?

I was looking for three things: a move away from the automotive and aerospace sectors; a global remit; and a leader with a clear business vision, with HR strategy at the heart of that vision. BSI delivers on all three counts.

- What skills and experience do you bring?

I have more than 20 years' international HR experience. Alongside this I bring various 'deep-dive' experiences. In learning and development, for example, I created the Land Rover University. I also managed marketing communications and PR in my last two roles.

- What's the greatest challenge over the next year?

The development of a leadership pipeline across the business probably presents the biggest challenge. We have many other critical activities under way but the leadership pipeline has the greatest long-term benefits.

- What do you do to unwind?

Dianne, my wife, and I are walking both the Cotswold Way and Wainwright's Walk in stages, so that tends to clear my head. Any time with my three children and my guitar works just as well.
