In addition, over a third (36%) of the 2,000 employees surveyed rated the way their employer treated them as “uninterested” – ignoring their needs or uncaring.
When asked how their employer could improve, people cited flexible working (20%), verbal recognition (20%) and offering protection insurance (15%).
Friends Life head of group protection proposition Anna Spender said: “It’s encouraging to see that employees could feel more valued with a simple ‘thank you’ when they do something well. A well thought-out benefits package could also help employees feel appreciated.”
The research coincides with Friends Life launching the UK’s first employer-funded cancer-specific workplace benefit, available to companies wanting to insure 100 members of staff or more.
