Disabled jobseekers to benefit from new service

The Government is to introduce a service to help disabled people back to work.

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) announced the Adult Advancement and Career Service (AACS) will be piloted in 10 areas before a nationwide launch in 2010.

It will provide adults with advice on jobs and learning, housing and childcare and will be aimed at groups such as the disabled, who are in most need of help in overcoming barriers to employment,

Susan Scott-Parker, chief executive of Employers' Forum on Disability, said: "We hope this new service can act as a bridge between the needs of employers and the talents of disabled people, particularly those with complex needs who are further from the labour market. Above all, the AACS needs to deliver the skills employers really need.

"We look forward to seeing the results of the pilots and hope they will be evaluated to see how well they meet the needs of employers and disabled people."
