In a speech to the Counsel and Care charity in London last week, the former Secretary for Work and Pensions said: "I want to challenge some of the thinking about the challenge ahead [including] the assumption that government has prime responsibility for supporting people through the ever increasing years of retirement."
His speech called for families and communities to better cope for care of the elderly but stated that people who continue to work or take part in voluntary activities would be able to maintain a higher standard of living and a "happy later life."
Blunkett - Work until incapacitated

Senior Labour MP David Blunkett has said people should take part in some sort of meaningful activity- preferably work until the point of our incapacity overtaking us.
