Bunzl is a highly decentralised multinational distribution and outsourcing company headquartered in London. The company is primarily involved in the sourcing, supply and distribution of non-food products to a variety of customers in the catering and hospitality, grocery and retail, cleaning and hygiene, and safety and healthcare sectors. With over 16,000 colleagues globally in 30 countries there are four geographic business areas: North America; Continental Europe; UK and Ireland; and Australasia and Latin America. Despite the company’s scale and success, it is a modest organisation and is not one that likes to shout about its successes.
Prior to joining Bunzl in September last year Welch worked for Wincanton for almost six years as group HR director. Welch also worked at the Royal Mail as HR director for operations & modernisation and has held senior HR roles at ABInBev and Sainsbury’s.
Welch attained a degree in English and Social Anthropology from Keele University in 1989, and an MA in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University Business School in 1993.
She is a Fellow of the CIPD and a member of the IOD.
Her areas of particular interest in HR, are talent and development, diversity and colleague engagement.
Welch lives with her husband in Hertfordshire and has two grown-up children. Her daughter works for Ocado having just joined their graduate programme, and her son, 19, is at the University of Leeds studying for a Maths degree.
Outside work Welch enjoys sports, both participating (gym, skiing and gentle tennis!), as well as watching most international sporting events. She loves reading fiction of varied genres and going to her local boutique cinema.
