Managers to take tips from down under

Beyondblue, an Australian not-for-profit organisation which helps employees beat depression is to work with UK managers to help them deal with employee depression.

Managers from the Department of Health, Kent County Council, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Mail, Tate & Lyle and Rolls-Royce have been taking part in the beyondblue National Workplace Programme at the Sainsbury Centre.

Sainsbury Centre is testing the depression initiative on a sample of managers to find out if the scheme will work in the UK.

Jeff Kennett, chairman of beyondblue and former Premier of the state of Victoria, said: "The programme works well in Australia. It has been shown to increase knowledge about depression and related orders, reduce stigma and improve attitudes. Most importantly it gives people the confidence to assist and appropriately manage employees who may have depression."
