London Olympics is proving good for job creation

British business is booming as increasing numbers of employment opportunities are created due to the 2012 London Olympics, according to research from Adecco.

It found that of all the work done so far by the Olympics Delivery Authority (ODA), 98% has been carried out by UK companies, and half by firms outside London.

Results show 15% of businesses are working for the ODA in some capacity, with a further 15% predicting they will be involved at some point. Half of companies believe they will benefit from the Olympics in some way.

“The 2012 Olympics will be an exciting time for the UK, creating a number of diverse job opportunities,” says Adecco’s group UK & Ireland CEO Rene Schuster. “The Olympics should hopefully encourage a resurgence in trades where the skills deficit has been quite large in the UK and encourage more apprenticeships and vocational training schemes."

In 2007 an £11million package to provide training and jobs ahead of the 2012 Olympics was announced by the then mayor of London, Ken Livingstone.
