London Olympics presents 'huge opportunity' for HR staff, says shadow olympics minister

The London Olympics represent a huge opportunity for HR staff to help people from all backgrounds achieve their employment ambitions, says a front-bench politician Tessa Jowell.

Addressing senior HR professionals, and in-house resourcers at the Recruitment Society's Summer Reception, sponsored by RecruitmentGenius last week,Jowell, shadow minister for the Cabinet Office and the Olympics, said: "The Olympics have created opportunities that I hope the recruitment industry will realise in every possible respect."

She told attendees: "Thank you so much for the contribution that you make, for everything you do to help people of all ages fulfil their ambitions, and nothing could be more in tune with the Olympic spirit than that."

The networking event was held on board HMS Belfast in London, on Tuesday June 28.

Geoff Newman, chief executive of RecruitmentGenius.com, said: Jowell's comments on the huge potential of the Olympics for recruitment professionals stimulated considerable interest, and she has thrown down a gauntlet that we will hopefully pick up with great enthusiasm."

The Recruitment Society is the UK's professional membership body that brings together people involved in resourcing.
