KPMG appoints new UK head of recruitment

KPMG has hired Iain McLaughlin as its new UK head of recruitment. He moves from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) where he held a number of roles across the HR/talent function over a six-year period.

His most recent role with GSK was as a global talent business leader, where he worked closely with the commercial businesses across GSK’s fastest-growing sector of emerging markets. Previous positions include talent and recruitment roles in the banking and IT sectors.

In the UK KPMG expects to recruit 7,500 people over the coming three years – leading to a net 3,000 increase in headcount, from 11,000 to 14,000.

Across KPMG Europe of which the UK firm is a member, it is expected that member firms will recruit around 21,000 people over the next three years, leading to a net increase in headcount of 8,000, from 30,000 to 38,000.

McLaughlin said: "I am delighted to be joining KPMG, a major employer and one of the biggest graduate recruiters in the country. The recruitment market has become more buoyant across the board in recent months. Demand has grown and so has supply, as people have become more confident about leaving their present position for other jobs. I look forward to making sure that KPMG’s recruitment function can continue to be one of the best in the market, providing the business with the responsive and flexible tools it needs."

Michelle Quest, UK head of people at KPMG, added: "I am very pleased that someone of Iain’s calibre and experience is joining us. Recruitment is central to our growth plans and an effective recruitment function can provide a business with a real competitive advantage."
