Epsom and Ewell saves money with single HR system

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council has replaced its outdated, manual HR and payroll system with a single, web-enabled system.

The council has implemented the self-service phase of a three-pronged strategy to bring efficiencies, give employees greater control of submitting and changing their own information while providing greater visibility. It is using MidlandHR’s iTrent HR and payroll software solution.

Epsom and Ewell began the process with payroll and core HR in April 2007 before upgrading to the full web-enabled iTrent solution. Recruitment and absence are next to be tackled, along with a training process that is due for completion in early 2009. At this point all employees will be able to submit expenses and view payslips online.

Irene Clarke, director of HR and communication, said:  “We wanted to simplify the entire administrative process and meet Gershon efficiency savings by integrating HR with payroll for a more seamless approach."

The new approach replaces a system which used separate, manual HR and payroll systems. Payroll was previously outsourced to Surrey County Council, which involved laborious data entry at both locations. This development is now helping to build a partnership approach with local councils.
