Helen Murley, global HR director, British Council

?Helen Murley joined the British Council in May 2013. She is a member of both the executive and management boards, and leads the British Council’s global network of HR professionals.

Murley brings with her a wealth of experience of leading expert teams and has a particular knowledge of developing organisations and talent at all levels.

Murley studied Botany and Zoology at Durham University and, following a PGCE at Cambridge University, began her working career as a teacher. She then moved to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor and went on to complete an MBA at Cranfield University.

From there she moved into management consultancy, working with companies from private, public and third sector in a variety of international locations. She subsequently moved into senior management roles within the corporate sector where she had a strong track record of shaping corporate strategy and helping organisations to develop and grow. Her last role in the corporate sector was corporate responsibility and environment director at BAA, where she was also chair of the BAA Communities Trust and a governor of Stockley Academy School.

Prior to joining the British Council Helen ran her own independent consultancy, specialising in HR and sustainability development. Her clients included the University of Cambridge, the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, Balfour Beatty Construction, Prudential UK and Post Office.
