You need more than a degree for a successful career

As thousands of students across the country recover from the stress of receiving exam results over the past few weeks, three quarters of employees claimed their exam results have had little or no impact on their career.

The results from monster.co.uk shows that only one in 10 believe good results got them where they are today.

Commenting on the findings, Mike Jones, director general of the Foundation for Management Education, said: "I remember when A levels used to be the hardest exams you would ever do, but now more and more people are going on to higher education and it is not so much of a meritocracy."

He added: "Qualifications don't last forever and even an MBA has a shelf life. I think that a degree has become a prerequisite to getting into a lot of jobs and recruiters will be looking for something additional to this."
