Wates Group launches website to teach young people about careers in construction

The Waters Group has developed a teaching resource to help students between the ages of 14 and 19 who are hoping to pursue a career in construction.

In an industry first, the construction firm will work with teachers and students to reveal some trade secrets about the sector to improve the career prospects of young people.

The free resource, which has been launched to coincide with the new vocational diploma in construction and the built environment, is accessed in the form of a website, containing practical work tasks, interactive games and challenges. It will also provide teachers with support in delivering the modules.

Chris Simpson, Waters' education liaison adviser, said: "Our objective behind creating the site is to ensure students are leaving school and college with the relevant knowledge to make informed career choices. They are our industry's future and imperative to its growth, so as a significant employer we felt it was our duty to look beyond building and invest in the workforce of tomorrow."
