Telefónica outsources recruitment for contractors across Europe

Telefónica has outsourced its contractor hiring across the European region, with a focus on its key markets of the UK, Ireland, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia, while also supporting European businesses, which have international hiring.

The appointment of Randstad Managed Services (RMS) is designed to ensure Telefónica has access to the best possible contractor talent and to ensure consistency of approach across key European markets.

To derive strategic value from the management of contractor hiring, Randstad will conduct a full audit of contractor usage across the region and create a best practice model designed to ensure contractors are deployed to best effect across the business and enjoy a distinctively Telefónica experience in return.

Catherine Leaver, Telefónica head of resourcing, said: "Our business is all about finding and harnessing the best possible talent - and that applies as much to our contractor base as it does to our permanent workforce.

"The Randstad appointment will embed a specialist team within our business, enabling us to take a strategic bird's eye view across our key markets as well as providing consistent support to our hiring managers on the ground. The aim is for the process to be simpler and more cost effective - at the same time as ensuring we have the best talent deployed in the best possible way."

Randstad Managed Service's remit is to work as part of the Telefónica Resourcing Team to achieve and maintain the right balance between permanent staff and a flexible workforce. Together the organisations are conducting a due diligence project to identify volumes and initially it looks to be a flexible workforce of about 800 across the region.

The size of the RMS Telefónica dedicated team will be dependent on the outcome of the Due Diligence project - influenced by contractor numbers and the type of process agreed.

A spokesman added:"We hope to deliver significant savings. The actual figure is pending a detailed due diligence that RMS are currently conducting. However, cost savings are not Telefónica's only motivation, we are focused on improving the experience for our hiring managers, contractors and suppliers. Talent is essential to our businesses success, and strategically our contractors are a critical part of our workforce. It is essential that we are able to source, support and manage our contingent talent in a sophisticated way.

"There was not previously a centralised management of contractors so there are no jobs lost as a result of the decision. Actually this will free up hiring manager's time to focus on their core roles and increase productivity. Overall the quality of the experience for hiring managers, contractors and suppliers will increase."
