Princes Trust tests employees' team working skills to raise money for young entrepreneurs

As training budgets are tightened, a number of employers have found a cheap and effective way to train staff, while raising money for good causes.

Employees from companies including The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Accenture, Axa and Oracle have taken part in a national enterprise challenge to raise money for young entrepreneurs as well as increasing their leadership, motivational and team working skills.

The Million Makers challenge, pitted teams of employees against each other to raise the most money for the Prince's Trust Business Programme, which helps thousands of young people find their feet in business.

Ideas included a nude calendar, a Santa fun run and a sponsored slim but the winning team from RBS turned an investment of £3,000 into £46,000 by selling advertising space in a business directory to local companies.

Martina Milburn, chief executive of the Prince's Trust, said: "Companies across the UK are still determined to support young entrepreneurs, despite Britain's economic woes, The scheme is proven to improve teams' confidence, communication and team-working skills, which is more important than ever as companies are forced to cut training budgets during the recession."

Million Makers 2009 will be launched in June.
