In an interview with BBC Radio 1 Xtra, the prime minister said those who earn the most should be asked to contribute more to raising public finances.
Speaking to a trainee DJ, Brown said: "I am not worried about pay myself. If there were an agreement that we could all do it, I'd very much want to be part of that. But I'm not in this job for the money."
Earlier this year after MPs received a pay rise of 2.3%, Brown imposed a pay freeze on ministerial salaries. He currently earns a salary of £194,250.
