NMC wants public input when making appointments

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) plans to recruit members of the public to join its appointments board on a part-time basis.

The NMC reports 60% of employees in the UK believe they are not making the most of their current skills and over two thirds would be willing to put them to better use in support of the healthcare sector.

Half of the employees surveyed would be willing to dedicate one working day a month to maintain the quality of skills in nursing and midwifery.

Christina McKenzie, head of midwifery at the NMC, said: "This opportunity to join our committees and panels allow people with a passion for healthcare to bring their day-to-day skills to the NMC and make a real differences to the nursing and midwifery professions. I would like to encourage as many people as possible to visit the website or get in touch with us to find out more."

Jackie Brambles, presenter of ITV's Loose Women, is supporting NMC's campaign. She said: "I would urge anyone who wants to stay in healthcare, even if they work outside of the profession, to get in touch with the NMC sand see how their day-to-day skills can make a difference to society."
