Nine out of 10 employers gear up to allow staff holiday for the Royal Wedding

The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professional (CIPP) has found that most employers will be granting the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday 29 April, a Bank Holiday.

A survey carried out by the CIPP has found that 88% of employers are treating 29 April as a Bank Holiday. This will be welcome news for many as there is no statutory right for an employee to have an extra day’s holiday as a result of the Royal Wedding.

Karen Thomson who is associate director of policy, research and strategic visibility said: “The CIPP is pleased to see that many employees are going to be granted paid time off. With David Cameron saying people should not worry about rules from councils in respect of street parties it is a good job we all have the Monday off too!”

The survey also found that 66% of employers are still paying on Friday’s; due to these findings nearly 90% of employers will be changing payroll deadlines as a result.

It does not seem however, that this will effect when employees get paid as the most popular date to get paid is the 27th day of the month; nearly 50% of payroll professionals say that they will be changing pay day to cope with the double Bank Holiday. The findings in this press release are based on a survey of one hundred and six payroll professionals.
