Marks & Spencer HR staff "excited" to work with new boss Marc Bolland

Marks & Spencer's head of learning and organisational development has said he is excited about working with new boss Marc Bolland and will be keen to find out his views on people development.

On Wednesday Bolland announced he would be leaving his current role of chief executive at retailer Morrisons to take on the top job at Marks & Spencer. Bolland is to leave Morrisons at the end of the current financial year, in February 2010.

Speaking yesterday at the CIPD Conference in Manchester, Nigel Jeremy, head of learning and organisational development at M&S told delegates he was looking forward opportunity of working with Bolland, but will be keen to find out his ideas on organisational development and the role of people strategy.

Jeremy was joined by Tess Field, organisational development director at Research in Motion and Richard Crouch, head of HR and organisational development at Somerset Council in a panel debate at the conference.

Crouch said: "Leadership will be vital in driving through organisational development facilitated by HR. If you have a leadership team that does not get organisational development, as an HR professional you will have to go somewhere else where you will have the support."
