Ladbrokes focuses on performance management

Ladbrokes is aiming to improve its performance through a new focus on performance and talent management.

The bookmaker is also working with training provider KnowledgePool to design and implement new training programmes.

Line managers were sent on a two-day residential course to help them provide greater support and encouragement to their teams, while 12,200 shop-floor staff are having their performance measured against customers, competitiveness, contribution and compliance.

The performance management will be measured using an online system.

Jeremy Trevor, retail HR director at Ladbrokes, said: "We've aligned out HR activity more closely to the business strategy. We realised that in order to achieve our objectives, we needed to ensure our managers bought into concepts and had the skills and abilities to support the changes we wanted to deliver."

He added: "In the retail sector, bonuses are usually paid based on shop profitability but our performance metrics are far more about behaviour. We're striving to create good presentation standards in our shops and good relationships among the teams so we can provide a great service and attract and retain more customers."
