Jaguar Land Rover to create 1,000 jobs, driven by Envoque

Jaguar Land Rover is set to create more than 1,000 jobs at its plant in Solihull, following a nationwide recruiting drive.

The jobs will help increase production of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery and Defender marques to supply developing nations and the resurgent US market. The company plans to provide 40 significant new models including its Envoque, or versions of existing cars over the next five years.

JLR announced the creation of 1,000 engineering jobs in the West Midlands region in April - while nearly 1,500 apprenticeship jobs have been created at its plant in Halewood, Merseyside.

The business secretary Vince Cable, said: "This is a positive story of growth for the plant that was once under threat of closure. It is now expanding and has ambitious product plans."

Neil Bentley, CBI deputy director general, said: "The news that Jaguar Land Rover will be creating a further 1000 jobs at its Halewood plant is a shot in the arm for UK manufacturing and the automotive industry in particular.

"This is further evidence of re-balancing across the economy, with the latest UK trade figures showing record levels of exports going to countries outside the EU, such as the US and China.

"Jaguar Land Rover continues to be a great British success story, which provides a real boost to its supply chain and the wider economy."
