Ernst & Young creates 700 internship places in a bid to convert 50% into full-time jobs

Ernst & Young has created 700 places on a range of insight days, summer internships, international and industrial placement programmes aimed at sixth form students, undergraduates and postgraduates, to nurture the brightest and best UK talent.

The financial advisory firm plans to convert 50% of its work placements on offer into full time jobs by 2013.

The placements giveyoung people a chance to get ahead in their careers at a time when students have struggled upon graduation to find work.

Stephen Isherwood, head of graduate recruitment at Ernst & Young, said: "Over the last twelve months, we've seen an unprecedented level of demand for our existing internship and work experience schemes. The appetite of graduates this year is huge - applications for 2011 places are already up by over 135%.

"In response we have not only doubled the existing number of places available, but have also added to the range and scope of the programmes on offer. So now, whether you are a sixth-former, in your first or last year of university, or a recent graduate, we can offer you a tailored work experience programme.

"Work experience and internships provide employers with an opportunity to identify new talent. It provides an unrivalled opportunity to see how a potential candidate would operate in the work place, removed from the pressure of an interview situation. Last year, 90% of our interns received graduate job offers. We're hoping that our enhanced Fast Tracks scheme will identify at least half of next year's graduate intake."
