En suite sauna in boss's realm? "Luxurious" workplaces exercise workers

Almost a third of employees believe their boss has an extravagant office, according to a survey released this week.

Some 31% of respondents to a poll by office designers Maris Interiors said their boss’s workplace was "excessively luxurious", with one design studio employee even reporting that his chief executive had exclusive access to an en suite sauna.

Expensive artwork was the most common complaint (17% of respondents), with one management consultancy chief working beneath a Picasso and another having an Andy Warhol on the wall.

A few leaders favoured an appearance of fitness, with 5% of respondents saying their bosses had gym equipment in the workplace. More unusual items included a jukebox, drumkit and an arcade machine.

Chairman of Maris Interiors, Michael Howard, said: "We’re quite surprised by some of these findings. I’m not sure I would want to have a meeting with someone and all the time be picturing them in the sauna. Or maybe they hold their meetings in the hot tub?"

There were 140 participants in the survey.
