Emergency Budget: Public-sector pay freeze for staff earning 21,000 plus

The chancellor of the Exchequer has announced a two-year pay freeze for public-sector staff earning more than 21,000 in salary.

George Osborne said staff earning less than this sum would enjoy an annual pay rise of £250 going forward. The Chancellor also suggested this would bring higher earners in the sector in line with overall fairness.

He said: The culture of excessive pay has to end.
