Dixons Carphone offers jobs to 800 Phones 4U staff

Dixons Carphone will offer jobs to 800 Phones 4U staff and customer insurance policies will remain in force, administrators at PwC have said.

PwC partner and joint administrator Rob Hunt said the agreement with Dixons Carphone relates “solely to staff and does not include the sale of any stock, chattels or the Phones 4U brand name”.

"We can confirm that Dixons Carphone have agreed, with our blessing, to offer roles to all people in the Phones 4U concessions located in Dixons Carphone outlets,” Hunt said.

"We're delighted to reach this agreement, thereby securing continued employment for more than 800 people. We would like to wish the transferring staff all the best in their new roles."

On Monday, the high-street phone retailer closed its doors after EE announced it would not be working with Phones 4u in the future. This followed decisions by the other major mobile phone networks to sever ties.

Insurance plans safe

Meanwhile, administrators have reassured customers with Phones 4U insurance that their policies will remain in force with minor short-term disruptions to customer service and claim processes.

This applies to policies taken out with Phones 4U's insurance arm, Policy Administration Services. The London General Insurance Company, which insures PAS plans, is not part of the Phones 4U group and was unaffected by the administration.

PwC partner and joint administrator Dan Schwarzmann said: “We would like to reassure all policyholders with an active Phones 4u Care or Premierplan mobile phone insurance policy that your policy remains in force in accordance with its terms and conditions.

“Your insurance premiums are safe and we are working with London General to maintain claims and related services under your policy. Unfortunately there will be some unavoidable short-term disruption to the normal customer service and claim processes."
