Administrators shut down 362 Phones 4U stores, leaving 2,417 staff jobless

Administrators have closed 362 Phones 4u stores, effectively winding up the retail arm of the business and leaving 2,417 staff without jobs.

The store closures mean 1,697 staff will lose their jobs immediately and 720 staff will be let go after they help conclude the closure programme.

Deals have been brokered with EE, Vodafone and Dixons Carphone over the past week to save about 2,000 jobs, but there is "little interest" in the remaining parts of Phones 4U, which went into administration last week.

"It is a very sad day for the people working at those locations and our thoughts are with them," joint administrator Rob Hunt said.

"We will make every effort to help the affected staff, working with the Phones 4u HR team over the coming days to support employees.”
