Businesses lose vital opportunities because of poor talent management.

A report from Hewitt Associates shows that 38% of organisations do not consider the needs of the business when devising their talent management strategy.

84% of employers believe lack of time is preventing managers from managing talent, 62% claim supporting technology is ineffective and 60% say line managers do not have adequate skills or capabilities to manage talent.

Hewitt Associates warns employers must put more into talent management to survive the current economic climate, with half of them admitting they are missing crucial business opportunities as a result of shortcomings in this area.

Nick Warren, head of talent consulting at Hewitt Associates, said: "Talent strategies are simply not filtering down to line managers. Many currently do not have the capability, time or will to manage talent correctly. As a result, too many businesses are failing to attract the right people or develop the talent they have."
