Bevan receives award for contribution to mental health

HR magazine columnist and HR Most Influential UK Thinker Stephen Bevan has received an international award for his contribution to the field of mental health.

Bevan, who is director of the Centre for Workforce Effectiveness at The Work Foundation and an honorary professor at Lancaster University, has received the European Personality Award from mental health organisation GAMIAN-Europe.

The organisation’s board said Bevan was being recognised for his “invaluable work [… and] tremendous impact” on raising the profile of mental health and increasing patient involvement.

Bevan thanked The Work Foundation for providing him with the platform to conduct “pioneering and rewarding research”.

He added: “While much progress has been made, mental illness remains a major and unresolved issue across the EU. The annual cost to the region remains at €461 billion and cannot be ignored any longer. Only 25% of people in the EU get any treatment, despite it affecting 38% of people in any given year.”

Bevan was ranked sixth Most Influential UK Thinker in the HR Most Influential 2014 rankings. ?
