“Offering employees corporate eye screening could prevent them being long-term sick in future,” says Suzanne Randall, corporate account manager at Specsavers. In 2012, Specsavers says it discovered potentially life-threatening conditions in 47 people who had an eye screening, alerting them to get medical treatment.
In 2011, research found that 20% of employers do not have an eye-care policy in place. As employers are legally required to provide eye care for employees who are using computer screens or driving for work, this suggests a significant proportion could be leaving themselves at risk of penalties.
