Every Thursday at 8pm during lockdown, the nation came together to clap for our glorious NHS and keyworkers on the frontline who are working around the clock to keep us safe, well and fed. In these truly unusual times, it is heartening to see gratitude in abundance.

We therefore thought it only fair to create our own round of applause for just a few of the many HR professionals going above and beyond’ to keep their employees and the community safe.

Maxine Mould, HR development manager, Waterstones

Mould has certainly stepped up during the current crisis. She has moved from HRBP into a new HR Development Manager Role. In a few short weeks she has launched our new wellbeing proposition, refreshing our EAP, launching Mental Health support (via Big White Wall) and physical support through Instructor Live.

She has also delivered our new onboarding process that is delivered online. All this while deal with a personal crisis of her partners father being hospitalised with COVID-19. She is a total star.

Nial Mullins, head of people and talent at Unibuddy

Mullins set up a ‘buddy’ system for new colleagues to feel supported as Unibuddy has doubled its company headcount over Q1 from 35 staff to 70 in three continents. He then helped to created a Buddy Wellbeing questionnaire to get honest feedback which became a set of guidelines and initiatives. Mullins has also boosted socials, virtual drinks and a dedicated onboarding academy with video calls from each head of department to introduce themselves.

Tom Blake, HR and reward director at Blake: Connelly

Blake has offered advice to many HR professional via a social media group and he has taken time to explain the coronavirus guidance in a reader friendly way. Despite being asked the same question over and over again from different people at different stages his answer has always been the same, in a very professional/friendly manner.
