Serle began his HR career as personnel manager at Principal Hotels between 1991-1994. He moved into energy engineering as assistant HR manager at Noble Drilling before moving to European HR manager at Diamond Offshore Drilling. He joined Amec as HR director Oil and Gas in 2003 and then worked in Natural Resources before moving to group operations in 2009.
Serle leads a nine-strong global HR leadership team (there are 600 in the wider global HR function) and has a focus on the three areas – of career opportunity, excellence and challenge, and belonging – found by a 2011/12 survey to be most important to
He was educated at Edinburgh Napier University, gaining a BA in business studies with hospitality management, before attending The Robert Gordon University to undertake an MSc in human resource management. He is a fellow of the CIPD.
