Liz McGivern, vice president, HR, Red Carnation Hotels

Liz McGivern has worked at Red Carnation Hotels for more than 10 years, first as training and development manager, then as director of human resources and training, and now as vice president for HR

Her background is in restaurants, bars, contract catering, private healthcare and hotels.

In 2009 she was named HR manager of the year at the Hotel Cateys awards, and a Top 100 Women in Hospitality at the SHINE Awards in 2011. The past few years have been particularly significant; with Red Carnation Hotels coming in at number two in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For this proves that the procedures and culture McGivern oversees are firmly implanted throughout. Red Carnation Hotels came in overall first for ‘opportunities for personal growth’, ‘staff that believe the company is run on sound moral principles’, ‘training being of personal benefit as well as professional benefit’ and ‘staff that love working for the company’.

McGivern was shortlisted for HR magazine’s HR director of the year award in the HR Excellence Awards 2015.

She also serves on the employer advisory board for Umbrella training plus mentors people in business in her spare time. She loves cooking and gardening and spends time whenever she can with her nieces and nephews.
