Starting her early career in the retail sector, King moved to the civil service and spent two years with the National Economic Development Office.She then joined Frimley Park Hospital in 1987 working for West Surrey and North East Hants Health Authority as personnel manager. She became director of HR at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 1991 and was appointed deputy chief executive in October 2017.
King is project director for a number of large capital projects including Heatherwood Hospital. Today her portfolio includes HR, facilities, estates, capital development and company secretariat. She is also a trained mediator.
King is a lay panel member for employment tribunals and sits on a number of national committees.
