Alison O’Connor, HR director, Arriva

Alison O’Connor joined Arriva in 2001 with responsibility for HR and now leads the corporate affairs function, which includes HR, group communications, health and safety and European public affairs agendas. She sits on the group executive committee.

As a graduate of the University of York, O’Connor’s first job was for a food retailing company, working on all areas of the shop floor and within the HR function.

She then joined The Boots Company where she worked for 15 years in a variety of HR and change management roles and in the retail, manufacturing, engineering and central areas.

At Arriva, owned by Deutsche Bahn, O’Connor’s team looks after senior recruitment and development, the group graduate scheme, pay and benefits, employee feedback, succession, internal and external communications, brand and stakeholder management, digital communications including website and intranet development, health and safety direction providing advice and support to senior managers, and transport policy across Europe.

O’Connor has been inducted into the Women 1st Top 100 Club network of the most influential women in hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism, who act as ambassadors and role models for the female leaders of tomorrow
