Staff kept out of the loop

Employees feel that managers are keeping them out of the loop about the future of their business, with more than half (56%) claiming that the only way they know change is afoot is when bosses have an increased number of meetings behind closed doors.

Research from YouGov and Investors in People shows that although 42% think their organisation would make the right decision for its future, almost half (49%) of employees do not think their views will be taken into account. More than one-third (35%) do not think they will be told about changes in their organisation on time or appropriately. And almost two in five employees (38%) doubt that their organisation would be honest and transparent towards them.

Simon Jones, chief executive at Investors in People UK, said: "To ensure productivity and motivation levels do not suffer in the current climate, it's important that employers actively manage change in the right way.

"Employers can make all the difference by delivering news of important changes to their staff and by offering support whenever change is being implemented."

Further, more than half of the UK workforce (53%) has seen an increase in their workload over the last year, 46% of staff think their workload will further increase over the coming year, 14% expect a new line manager, 14% expect their workplace to relocate and 14% think they will be made redundant.
