Santander launches its biggest ever graduate scheme with 100 places

Santander has launched its graduate scheme for 2012 which offers university leavers jobs in one of 12 business areas.

The global bank aims to attract its highest ever intake of graduates in 2012 offering up to 100 places.

The two-year programme will provide university graduates with the chance to kick-start their career via valuable on-the-job experience and fast track career development. Throughout the development programme, successful applicants will be constantly challenged and given a variety of responsibilities, which will help prepare them for a long-term career in the banking sector.

Santander is also launching its internship programme for the second year running and this offers participants the opportunity to gain invaluable exposure to working at a global bank through a 10-12 week placement.

Over 50 places are available for individuals currently studying at university in their penultimate year. A survey conducted last year revealed that 90% of interns wanted to work for Santander as a result of completing the programme.

The launch of the graduate and internship programmes forms part of a wider strategy to expand the number of talented people Santander recruits. This includes Santander's new Flying Start programme for school leavers and an apprentice scheme. Through all four programmes, Santander hopes to recruit over 300 people in 2012.

Simon Lloyd, HR director at Santander, said: "We offer talented people the chance to accelerate their career development with us through a number of different routes. Our 2012 recruits will have a critical role to play in shaping our business and delivering our future success."
