Barclays Corporate redesigns its graduate recruitment scheme

Barclays Corporate is to reshape its graduate recruitment programme and launch a new website dedicated to entry-level recruitment.

Next year, the company plans to recruit approximately 120 employees for its graduate programme, as well as 50 candidates for its eight-week summer internship scheme. The target candidate pool will be comprised of recent graduates representing a variety of skillsets and degree disciplines.

The redesigned recruitment scheme offers graduate and intern-level employees the opportunity to develop specialist skills and experience-based learning within several critical areas of the business: client coverage, product development, operations, technology, risk management, HR, marketing and corporate communications.

Matt Press, head of HR at Barclays Corporate, said: "We’re building a strong graduate programme as we need a pipeline of talent flowing into the organisation to strengthen it and provide the leaders of tomorrow. We've recruiting specifically into particular areas that will allow individuals to develop and grow within a business sector."

Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to develop their skills both domestically and on an international level.

Press added: "Barclays Corporate is transforming from a predominantly UK corporate bank into a world-class corporate bank by increasing our geographical coverage, enhancing our product offering and strengthening our infrastructure. Our graduate programme is one of the first things we’ve chosen to bring online to help with our expansion. So our graduates will be joining in at an exciting time."

Barclays Corporate has also launched a dedicated website for prospective graduates and interns. The site provides prospective candidates with an overview of the roles within the bank and offers a wealth of information for individuals to understand what to expect from a career in corporate banking in a variety of functions within the bank. They are also provided with advice on how to apply for the graduate and summer internship schemes, which close on 18 February 2011.
