'Power Part-Time' list challenges the 'low skill, low pay' perception of part time work

The list launched by website Timewise jobs shows just how outdated the traditional views on part-time workers are becoming.

Timewise put together the list after claiming that nearly three in four UK workers "don't believe" it's possible to have a senior level career on a part time basis. It also found that more than half a million people in the UK now work in part time jobs earning at least £40,000 a year.

Every single person on the list works less than five full days a week, and nearly a quarter say they have worked part-time for 10 years or more.

The top 50 come from a range of backgrounds, from entrepreneurial SMEs to charities and leading British brands.

The list included group HR and brand director at Oxford Instruments, Claire Flint, who works four days a week. Also working four days is head of Heathrow customer service, Vicki O'Brien and BBC executive commissioning producer, Clare Paterson.

Director of strategy at British Gas, Betsy Bassis and people director at Innocent drinks, Karen Callaghan both work three days a week.

Nadine Jones, group HR and project director at Ryman also works three days a week.

Time jobs' founder and judge Karen Mattison, said: "The calibre of people on the Power Part Time list kills the notion that you cannot work a senior level job on a part-time basis.

"Not only are most innovative and future-forward employers using flexibility as a tool to retain brilliant people, but many are starting to use it to attract brand new talent too."

Lea Paterson, one of the top 50 and head of inflation report and bulletin division at the Bank of England, said: "Working part time hasn't compromised my ability to do my job."
