One in ten respondents to the Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) study said they plan to use the beginning of 2008 to begin looking for alternative careers. The main reason (from 55% of respondents), was to earn more money, while 41% said they wanted to gain a new skill.
Employees aged 25-44 years are the most restless in their jobs, with 82% of them considering changing their career, compared with less than half of workers aged over 44.
“The start of a new year seems to be a particular good catalyst for people to think about their jobs and future prospects,” says Carolyn Dowding at LLUK. “This is reflected in the increase in calls to LLUK Information and Advice Service as last New Year dawned – the number of calls was up 39% in January 2007 compared to December 2006.”
