Lakeside signs Skills Pledge

Lakeside Shopping Centre has pledged to improve the skills of its workforce. The Essex centre's general manager, Steve Chandler (pictured), signed the Government's Skills Pledge earlier this month and was presented with a baton by Victoria Dixon, acting manager for learning and development at FedEx, which was the most recent company to sign the Pledge.

Lakeside is building up a partnership with Thurrock and Basildon College to improve skills in the workplace and in September it held training fair for the retail, catering and hair and beauty industries.

Chandler said: "At Lakeside we're committed to giving our employees and retailers ongoing support for training, which is why we've signed the Government's Skills Pledge. In partnership with our retailers and Thurrock and Basildon College, we are passionate about ensuring careers in retail achieve the recognition they deserve via investment in high-quality training and development for all our 3,000 employees."
