John Lewis is to double its graduate intake in 2011

John Lewis is to double the number of places on its 2011 graduate scheme in comparison with last year.

As the organisation continues its commitment to invest in talent for the future, graduates are invited to apply for one of three specialties – retail management, buying or merchandising.

It is hoped the three-year programme will provide university graduates with the chance to kick-start their career via valuable on-the-job experience and fast-track career development. Throughout the programme, successful applicants will be constantly challenged and given a variety of responsibilities that will help prepare them for a long-term career in retail.

On top of the extensive training they receive, graduates will be able to take advantage of the many benefits offered to John Lewis staff. As well as receiving a share of company profits and having a say in the running of the organisation, they can also join a number of John Lewis clubs and societies: there are a range to choose from, including sailing, surfing and wine tasting.

They also have the opportunity to take part in John Lewis’s ‘Partners in Sport’ programme in the run-up to London 2012, which offers partners sports coach training and the chance to bid for funding for team or group sporting events.

Sophie Milliken, recruitment manager, John Lewis, said: "We’re very pleased to be in the position of being able to double our graduate intake this year. At John Lewis we have many partners who have progressed through our graduate training up to senior management roles and we hope that by increasing the number of graduates we take on, we can continue to develop talent and business leaders of the future."
