Job insecurity fears are growing

More than 3.3 million workers (13% of the workforce) are unsure if they will still have a job this time next year.

The TUC has reported that in the east of England only 7% are not sure they will be in their job next year compared to 20% in Wales who are either not very confident or not confident at all about their job security.

Staff in medium-sized business are most worried: 18% of staff in firms with 50-249 employees are not confident about their job security in 2009. And people who earn between £10,000 and £15,000 are much less confident that those who earn more than £50,000.

Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, said: "These findings add to the growing pressure on the Government and economic policy-makers to put growth first by doing all they can to restore confidence and boost investment."
