A survey from Cranfield School of Management of 1,200 employees on lower incomes as well as managers and directors shows almost half regularly use computers at work for personal reasons and a third of employees admit they are addicted to using technology.
Seven out of 10 employees described as ‘young, capable and ambitious' spend up to half their day accessing social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace to satisfy personal needs. And more than half of the social group described as ‘young pleasure- orientated and sexually-driven' use the internet at work for flirting, affairs and sexual advances.
