B&Q to boost sales skills of 4,000 shop-floor staff with launch of training academy

B&Q has launched a training academy for its showroom staff to boost their sales skills.

The retailer will launch the academy for 4,000 shop-floor staff at the end of this month and will allow them to complete a City & Guilds qualification in home improvement knowledge by the end of the year.

The academy, which represents an investment of £2 million, was created by the HR team with help from showroom suppliers.

The announcement follows the creation of the company's apprentice scheme earlier this year.

Liz Bell, HR director at B&Q said: "Investing in qualifications for our store teams is a priority. It gives our customers the confidence they are being advised by expert staff who are knowledgeable and able to offer trusted service.

"The launch of the showroom academy is the latest addition to a suite of qualifications and apprenticeship programmes we have introduced this year."
